Inclusive language in the workplace
According to the American publishing platform Medium, Inclusive language is designed to avoid excluding people on the basis of gender, sexual preference, age, race, ability, and avoids offensive language, and aims for social justice.
Creating an inclusive environment will ensure employees feel more welcome, included and are more likely to thrive due to the landscape being less intimidating and exclusive. By encouraging a more exclusive and inaccessible environment, members of the workforce feel less empowered to ask questions, collaborate and flourish in their role, due to lack of confidence. This can lead to a less productive workforce and team members becoming unnecessarily pigeonholed.
