How To Survive As The 'Only' In Your Team

ICYMI: How to survive and thrive as 'The Only' in your workplace
McKinsey’s recent 'Women in the Workplace' report highlights something many of us have experienced: Onlys “have especially difficult day-to-day experiences. Onlys stand out, and because of that, they tend to be more heavily scrutinised. Their successes and failures are often put under a microscope, and they are more likely to encounter comments and behaviour that reduce them to negative stereotypes.”

What’s helped us survive: being authentic at work, feeling supported, finding mentors and surrounding ourselves with a strong community. Our founder, Abadesi shared her experiences and learnings for excelling even you are The Only One, listen on catch up here.

Are you ready for the Metaverse? 👥

Bill Gates recently predicted that the metaverse will host most of our office meetings in the next 2-3 years. The pandemic & the rise of virtual working has accelerated innovation in the ways in which we work.

But what if the metaverse is closer than we think? 🤔 Take a look inside Alex Paiz’s office, in a Real Estate company that already operates within their own metaverse.  Are you into this, or do you think that there are important workplace issues to solve BEFORE we move onto the metaverse? (Employee welfare, equal opportunities in a remote world and more...)

Why Safe Spaces are never overrated

TW ⚠️  Gaslighting

"Why do we need a [insert underrepresented group] community? Isn’t that more segregation?"

While we STRONGLY disagree with this tweet, we've found versions of this question come up in our talks, conversations and workshops. Unfortunately, there are still many people who struggle to understand the needs of groups that they don't identify with.

First of all, there are SO many reasons why curated spaces are GOOD for our society

  • Safety: A moment of respite, full expression and connection with someone similar

  • Community: Visibility for minority and marginalised groups and their allies

  • Understanding: Forums for inclusion and important discussions that change the culture of an industry/workplace for the better

Creating safe spaces isn't about excluding others, but restoring equity and equality. We'll be expanding on this more on Twitter and Instagram later in the week, join the conversation.

If you’re seeing these objections and questions coming up in your team or company, try the Fostering Inclusion workshop for increased understanding in your team.
